Karaka Tree Motel is luck to have the only taupo accommodation with mineral spa pools in every room.One thing to note is that our accommodation in Taupo is often booked out well in advance so you should be sure to book early for peak holiday times, for instance over the Christmas holidays and long weekends.
Lake Taupo was created by a volcanic eruption so big the sun went hazy in China (relax, that was a few thousand years ago). Almost everywhere you look there's a volcano. Just a few minutes north of the Lake at Wairakei you'll find geothermal fields, boiling mud pools and steaming geysers.
We have a number of different cafes and restaurants in Taupo a lot that overlook the lake, and there is a good variety of shopping available if wanted. Taupo has some of the best trout fishing in the world it's now over 100 years since the first trout fry were released into the lake and today it is one of the last true wild trout fisheries in the world.
And if you are into other types of activities we have an abundance of skydiving, jetboating and bungy jumping to get your blood pumping. There’s lots of fun to be had in the town itself, more on its fringes, and still more just a little further afield, such as the lost world of Orakei Korakei, an hour’s drive away.
